You thought faith was about rules? Here's what nobody told you

SafePoint Talk Petr Činčala 10/16/2025

A secret that turns pain into strength — "root yourself" in Christ and come alive again.

Maybe you've thought faith is just about what you can and can't do. What you should and shouldn't do. That Christianity is about rules, rituals, and people who act like they have all the answers. But that's exactly the biggest mistake. What actually changes a life isn't rules, but relationship. And that's exactly the secret we discovered at SafePoint — a place where faith breathes again and God isn't a theory, but a reality.

This talk on "The Secret" opens with the story of a young man named Renato. At first glance, he has everything — success, a company, a relationship. But inside he carries an emptiness that no success can fill. As a kid, he was betrayed by his father, who left with a promise to return. He never did. So Renato learned to keep things under control. He learned to survive. But control isn't freedom. Years later, when he gets word that his father is dying, he decides to go see him — not for reconciliation, but for closure. Instead, he ends up on a journey that completely changes his life.

This journey, full of conflict and pain, finally brings him to a breaking point. Renato discovers that his father never stopped loving him. And when he finally hears the words he'd needed his whole life — "I'm proud of you" — the ice inside him melts. For the first time in years, he cries. And for the first time, he lets himself be loved. This is the moment of transformation. Not a religious one, but a human one. And that's exactly the key to all of faith.

Transformation doesn't begin by starting to "do things right." Transformation begins when you see Christ as He truly is. Not as a distant God, but as someone who knows you deeply and loves you anyway. Just like Renato, we often live with the feeling that we have to handle everything ourselves. That we have to be strong, keep our past, our failures, and our emotions under control. But exactly where our strength breaks down, God begins.

Root yourself in Christ

The apostle Paul wrote: "Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him." Roots aren't visible, but they decide everything. When they're deep, a tree can withstand the wind. When they're shallow, the first storm will topple it. Where you're rooted determines how you handle life. Maybe you're rooted in fear, in the need for approval, in a past you can't forgive yourself for. But God invites you to root yourself in Him.

Trees communicate with each other through their roots. They help each other, sending nutrients back and forth. That's how real faith works too — when it's rooted in Christ, it connects people and gives strength. Church, friends, community — all of that can sometimes fail you. But Christ never leaves.

Faith isn't about handling everything on your own. It's about the fact that even when you fall, you're still rooted in a love that will hold you up. When God enters your roots — your old wounds, your depression, your failures — He starts changing everything from the foundation up. Not on the surface, but from the inside out.

Mind, heart, and hands

The transformation of the whole person happens in three colors. They represent green — mind, blue — heart, red — hands. Change starts in the head, becomes real in the heart, and shows itself outwardly through the hands.

A change in thinking means stopping believing old lies. Lies like "I'm not good enough," "God will only accept me if...," "I'll mess everything up." When you start recognizing and rejecting those voices, you start growing. Then peace and gratitude come into the heart. Peace isn't silence without problems — it's assurance in the middle of the storm. Gratitude literally changes the chemistry of your soul. When you give thanks, your mind stops hunting for flaws and starts noticing God's presence.

And finally, the hands — what you do. Rooting yourself in Christ means becoming someone who brings love into everyday reality. Being a "SafePerson" — someone others feel safe around. That kind of person doesn't respond with anger, but with patience. Doesn't judge, but listens. A transformed heart shows in how you treat people.

What it means to root yourself in Christ

Rooting yourself in Christ means letting Him into your reality. Not into your mask, but into the truth. It means letting Him touch the places where you're hurt, where you feel ashamed, where you feel like there's no hope left. Christ doesn't heal performance — He heals hearts.

When you let yourself be rooted, your faith stops being theory. It becomes life. You stop trying to control everything and start discovering the freedom that comes from trust. Being rooted in Christ doesn't mean being perfect. It means having the assurance that even if you lose everything, you still have a foundation that won't move.

And maybe this is exactly what you need to hear too. You don't have to be perfect to be loved. You don't have to have everything figured out to start over. All you need is to put down roots.

Because faith was never about rules. It was, is, and always will be about relationship. And right there, where you let God truly know you, you'll start to realize that the greatest secret you're searching for has been searching for you all along.
